The International Foundation for the Protection of\r\nFreedom of Speech Adil Soz made a study of the situation with the right to\r\nfreedom of expression, receipt and dissemination of information in Kazakhstan\r\nin September 2017.
\r\nIt reports:
\r\n- Editor-in-chief\r\nof the newspaper Sayasi Kalam. Tribuna \"Zhanbolat Mamai was sentenced to\r\nthree years of restriction of freedom with confiscation of property. The journalist\r\nwas released from arrest in the courtroom.
\r\n- Human\r\nrights defenders propose to exclude proposals for amendments and additions to\r\nthe Law \"On Mass Media\" from the draft law \"On Amendments and\r\nAdditions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Information\r\nand Communications\".
\r\n- The\r\ncriminal charges against Lukpan Akhmedyarov on insulting a policeman were\r\ndropped for lack of corpus delicti.
\r\n4 criminal charges were brought againt media and citizens in\r\nconnection with the exercise of the right to freedom of expression, the receipt\r\nand dissemination of information in September
\r\n50 trial\r\nand pre-tiral criminal charges were brought in connection with the exercise of the\r\nright to freedom of expression, instruction and dissemination of information since\r\nthe beginning of the year.
\r\nFour\r\njudicial acts were issued on cases of protection of honor, dignity and business\r\nreputation (including 1 in cassation, 1 in appeal). One of them was in favor of\r\nthe media, journalists and citizens in September.
\r\n63 letters\r\nbefore action and claims for protection of honor, dignity and business\r\nreputation were filed in connection with the exercise of the right to freedom\r\nof expression since the beginning of the year. Claims for compensation for\r\nmoral damage in January-August amounted to 184 million 960 thousand tenge. The\r\ncourts collected 54 million 20 thousand tenge.
